Pressure Washer on Stairs

 PRESSURE WASHING

Clean driveways, paths and patios can make all the difference to the appearance of your property. With exposure to the elements and daily use of these areas it’s not hard to see how they get dirty and slippery quickly. If left this will build up and cause unsightly additions such as moss, weeds and lichens.

Eventually, this can start to affect parking as areas of your drive start to sink due to damage. Keeping your driveways, paths and patios clean through regular washing and sealing is recommended to keep it looking and functioning its best.

TYPE OF PATIO CAN IT BE PRESSURE WASHED?

Concrete - Yes - These surfaces are strong and durable, so it is perfectly safe to pressure wash.

Imprinted/Patterned Concrete - Yes - Bear in mind, this pressure wash should only be carried out by a professional who will clean it at low pressure and possibly reseal the colour or imprint if needed.

Block Paving - Yes - You may need to look at re-sanding after the clean if the sanding joints have been partially removed.

Brick - Yes - The professional must be careful with the level of pressure applied.

Slate - Yes - The colour of the stone may be impacted after and need to be resealed.

Gravel - No - The loose gravel will fly up during impact and could cause property damage or injury.

Re-sanding Information

Depending on the type of patio surface and how well maintained the patio is, it may need to be re-sanded. Patio types typically include concrete, block paving and paving slabs as the most common materials used.

Block paving and paving slabs for a patio will likely need to be re-sanded after cleaning. Once the block paving or paving slabs have been cleaned with professional machinery, the sand joints – the lining of sand you can see between paving slabs, sometimes referred to as ‘the cracks’ – between paving may have been partially stripped by the force of the water.

Sand joints hold together the interlock between slabs which provides the friction to keep the entire structure together. It is necessary to have block paving re-sanded after cleaning if the sand joints have been stripped as this could cause the blocks to come loose.

Do I Really Need to Seal My Patio?

The short answer is yes! Sealing your patio with a sealant protects the patio surface from the constant weather damage it will be subjected to outside.

Sealant can reinvigorate your patio's colour and overall appeal as well as keeping the condition of your patio up to scratch. Homeowners will find a noticeable difference in the aesthetic of their patio if they choose to have it sealed.

The sealant will fade over time and it is recommended you reseal your patio every three to five years or after cleaning depending on the overall condition of the patio.

What does the cleaning process involve?

We will prepare the area for cleaning. Move garden furniture, pots, bins etc out the way and clear the area of leaves and mess.

Depending on the condition of your area for cleaning we may apply ALGEX algaecide treatment in advance to make power washing easier and to remove green Algae and Moss from brickwork, block paving and concrete surfaces. Also suitable for Decking. Due to the concentration of the product, ALGEX offers long term protection from surface algae. Surfaces prone to heavy algae build-up.

If your patio has been left unattended for quite some time and has accumulated a lot of dirt, weeds or moss, the labour involved in cleaning the patio will be more substantial, meaning the job is likely to cost more.

We may also have to use our PREMIUM (TFR) Brilliant for cleaning all hard surfaces including stone and concrete. New non solvent, non acidic and non flammable Heavy Duty Concentrated Cleaner. Active foam boosters, detergents and stabilisers blended within the PREMIUM formula ensure deep cleaning is achieved every time. PREMIUM is highly concentrated and may also be used to clean machinery, floors, including stone, walls and asphalt. Ideal on workshop floors and petrol stations or anywhere with oily residues.

Cleaning will involve using a pressure washer to remove stains, weeds, algae and moss. This process might remove joint filler, Sand or Joint It. Once cleaned we can refill joints with Kiln Dried Sand or Joint It if required. Ask for a quote if required.
